Tonight, the True Blue Brew Crew opens the 122nd edition of the Fall Classic. The World Series is back in Milwaukee.
But did you know that the National League club's predecessor, the team they were named after, had a long and glorious postseason history? The Brewers played their first postseason championship series way back in 1913. The Brews, as the cream of the American Association, took on the Western League champion Denver Grizzlies.
Other postseason series were to follow. In 1936, the American Association instituted a playoff to select the league's representative in the Junior World Series, where they would face the winner of the International League. You can read All in all, the Brews won eight American Association Pennants: 1913, 1914, 1936, 1943, 1944, 1945, 1951, and 1952. They played in two "minor league baseball championships", in 1913 and 1924 (winning both) and then three Junior World Series:
1936 - Milwaukee over Buffalo, 4 games to 1
1947 - Milwaukee over Syracuse, 4 games to 3
1951 - Milwaukee over Montreal, 4 games to 2
You can read all about this glorious postseason past in our review called "The Other Fall Classic".
And GO BREWERS!
