On This Day - Raise the Roof

It was seventy-five years ago today, on June 15, 1944. The Chicks were on the road, and the Brewers were playing a home game against the Columbus Red Birds, when a wind gust tore loose a section of Borchert Field's roof.

The Brewers game, tied 5-5 in the seventh, was postponed, and the Brewers headed out for a three-week road trip. The Chicks were due to play the Rockford Peaches on Friday the 16th, but their Saturday game was instead turned into a double-header, and the old Orchard would be cleaned up and open for business Saturday morning.
